In a mixing bowl, combine the self-raising flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and ground ginger.

Using your fingertips, rub in the butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

Add the finely chopped crystallized ginger and golden syrup to the bowl.

Mix everything together until it forms a dough.
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
Roll the dough into small walnut-sized balls.
Coat the balls in white sugar.
